Every athlete’s recruiting journey looks different.

Some commitments happen quickly. Others take unexpected turns that ultimately lead exactly where they’re meant to be.

For Anna Grace Flowers (Class of 2027), her commitment to Louisiana State University–Eunice (LSUE) wasn’t just about finding a college—it was about finding a place that truly felt like home.

Standing 5’0”, Anna knew people often questioned whether she could compete at the next level. She also knew she couldn’t control what others thought. What she could control was her work ethic.

“I always knew that my chances of going to a Division I school were slim just because I’m 5’0”. But that never stopped me from working hard to try and reach that dream.”

Beginning in eighth grade, Anna immersed herself in camps, learning the recruiting process while searching for the right fit. Along the way, she developed a strong relationship with a coach at another program and believed she had found where she belonged.

After nearly two years of conversations and multiple campus visits, everything changed.

The opportunity she had been working toward was no longer available.

“I was lost because I wasn’t willing to go over three hours away.”

Like so many athletes, Anna suddenly found herself starting over.

Earlier that year, she had visited LSUE. While she respected the coaching staff, she wasn’t convinced it was where she wanted to be. The town wasn’t what she had pictured for herself, so she continued attending camps and exploring other opportunities.

Then, during a tournament in Ruston, Louisiana, everything changed.

Anna crossed paths with the LSUE coaches once again. They watched every game she played that weekend, encouraged her throughout the tournament, and most importantly, made her feel genuinely wanted.

That weekend gave her the clarity she had been searching for.

“After that tournament, I knew that’s where I was supposed to be.”

Before making her decision, Anna took time to pray for guidance and peace.

“I came home after the tournament and prayed for peace about my situation before I made any decisions.”

That peace ultimately led her to commit to Louisiana State University–Eunice, where she’ll continue both her academic and athletic career.

Growing Through the Challenges

Looking back, Anna says one of the biggest obstacles she had to overcome wasn’t physical—it was learning to stop trying to satisfy everyone else’s expectations.

“I overcame the constant struggle of trying to please others with my performance instead of prioritizing my own happiness.”

That shift in mindset allowed her to play with more confidence, trust herself, and enjoy the game she loves.

The People Who Made It Possible

Anna is quick to recognize the people who helped her reach this milestone.

She credits God for opening the right doors at the right time, her parents for their unwavering love and sacrifices, and her hitting coach, Kyle “KP” Pearson, along with every coach who invested in her development.

She says her parents have been her greatest supporters.

“They never missed a single one of my games, regardless of the weather.”

Looking Ahead

As Anna prepares for her next chapter, she’s excited for more than just college softball.

After two years at LSUE, she plans to transfer to a four-year university while pursuing a degree in Biomedical Science, with hopes of building a career in the medical field.

Advice for the Next Generation

Anna hopes younger athletes remember that success isn’t found by avoiding obstacles—it’s found by pushing through them.

“Don’t stop working when the work gets hard. Let every little obstacle in your way motivate and encourage you to be even better than where you are.”

Her favorite quote perfectly reflects the mindset that carried her through her recruiting journey:

If she could speak to her 10-year-old self, she’d offer one final reminder:

“Don’t let the negative comments people make on the field affect your performance. Take those criticisms and let them motivate you.”
